A lightning-fast police procedural, The Hunted introduces a homicide detective who gets the shock of his life while tracking a most ingenious serial killer.

The Hunted begins with a little girl witnessing a horrible crime. Due to the child’s testimony, the murderer is convicted. Eighteen years later the killer is released on parole, and his mission is to track down the now-grown woman he feels betrayed him. A deranged dance of masked identities ensues, and it is u

p to newly single homicide detective Frank Russo to unravel the case.

“A compelling thriller with a very satisfying conclusion.” Booklist

“Barcomb’s police procedural introduces a likable new series detective…” Library Journal

“Like Harlan Coben and Dennis Lehane, Barcomb stitches a tragically taut connection between present and past. A major suspense novel.” Jon Land, author of The Last Prophecy and The Seven Sins

Wayne Barcomb to Speak at SFW

Our April (April 1st, Selby Library, 6:30 PM) speaker is Wayne Barcomb. His latest thriller is coming out in April.

Wayne, a long-time member of Sarasota Fiction Writers, has embarked  upon a new course with a psychological thriller. It should be an interesting evening.

Wayne Barcomb’s newest novel, The Hunted, published by St. Martin’s Press, is the story of a frightening father-daughter relationship. A girl, who watched her father—in a fit of rage—kill her mother, grows into an adult who kills men as surrogates for her father. The father, meanwhile, is released from prison after 20 years and begins hunting down his daughter. The two move inexorably on a collision course of retribution. Jon Land calls The Hunted a haunting and harrowing journey into murder, madness and vengeance.

Wayne Barcomb is also the author of two excellent mystery novels which are set in Sarasota: Blood Tide and Undercurrent.

A very popular earlier novel, All Are Naked, is the story of a man’s descent into obsession and deception, and the consequences that follow.

Wayne lives in Sarasota with his lovely wife, Susan, who is also his editor and business partner.

Lois Duncan to Speak at SFW

March 4th, 6:30PM, Selby Library.

Hotel for Dogs is a movie for children, their parents, and all dog lovers.

It’s cute, funny and required viewing for anyone needing a good laugh.

The book was written by Sarasota native Lois Duncan. She has written two sequels, as well.

You can find out a lot more about her at:

http://loisduncan.arquettes.com/index.htm

Lois spoke to us about three years ago and was fascinating then.

She has a lot more to tell us now.

Lois writes, of Hotel for Dogs, that ‘As always happens, the film script isn’t quite like the book.’

For any writer, that is an intriguing statement.

She will be at our next meeting to tell us about that, how she turned her book into a fine movie, and all about her visit to Hollywood.

Lois is the author of over 50 books. She writes humor, as Hotel for Dogs clearly shows.

She is also known as a writer of  YA suspense novels. They include: I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER and KILLING MR. GRIFFIN, which were both filmed.

Others include: STRANGER WITH MY FACE, SUMMER OF FEAR, LOCKED IN TIME, THE THIRD EYE, DOWN A DARK HALL (a gothic, which may be filmed soon), DON’T LOOK BEHIND YOU and THE TWISTED WINDOW.

Lois is a recipient of the Margaret A. Edwards Award, presented by the American Library Association for an outstanding contribution to young adult literature

Lois is a wonderful writer and will be a fine and fun speaker.

DON’T MISS IT!

Note: Please remind all that there are books about the movie, Hotel for Dogs that were NOT written by Lois. If our members want the real thing, the book will say: ‘by Lois Duncan.’

General Meeting

6:30 pm Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Selby Library Auditorium

Our speaker this month is Don Bruns. He has been our guest once before. You might remember the night we were at the Gulf Gate Library. Don gave us a nice talk and played his guitar. He even sang!

He is a regular panelist with Mystery Florida in June.

Don’s latest hardcover is the second in a series of adventures starring two men (James Lessor and Skip Moore) and a truck… a white box truck. This time they hook up with a traveling evangelist and… no, you have to read it.  It is called Stuff Dreams Are Made Of.

Don also has a long-running series of Caribbean mysteries.

The next book in that series is Bahama Burnout. It is due out next month.

Don Bruns is an award-winning author, a real pro, a fine musician and–hey–he’s also a nice guy.

Enduring Romance

Romance

Romance

Romances make up the biggest selling fiction category in the publishing industry. The Romance Writers of America (RWA) estimates almost 65 million Americans read romance fiction – defined as a novel that contains a central love story with a satisfying and optimistic ending. (Holy four-letter-word  - That’s a lot of readers.)

Are you holding your pen, staring out the window, and thinking about that next topic?
